What Our Patients Say

Dental Implants You Can Trust

Missing teeth are more than a cosmetic problem. They change the way you eat, the way you speak, and the way your jaw holds its shape over time. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement that stops the jawbone from shrinking after tooth loss — and the only one that genuinely feels like your own tooth.

Louis B. Sachs D.D.S. has placed implants for Southern Maryland patients for over three decades. Every case is planned individually using 3D imaging and works around your timeline, your budget, and your overall health.

How Dental Implants Work

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed where the tooth root used to live. Over three to four months it fuses with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration, creating a foundation that is actually stronger than the original root.

  • Looks and functions like a natural tooth
  • Preserves jawbone density and facial structure
  • Does not affect neighboring healthy teeth
  • Lifespan of 20+ years with normal care
  • Cleaned with regular brushing and flossing
Most adults in reasonable health with adequate bone density are candidates. If bone has been lost after extraction, simple grafting is often possible during the same appointment.

The Implant Timeline at Our Solomons Office

Implant treatment is a series of short, predictable steps spread over a few months:

  1. Consultation and 3D scan — we map bone, nerves, and sinus position.
  2. Implant placement — a single appointment under local anesthesia.
  3. Healing — 3 to 4 months while the implant fuses with the bone.
  4. Crown delivery — your custom crown is bonded onto the implant.
Most patients return to normal eating and speaking the next day after placement.

Dental Implants FAQs

With proper hygiene and regular checkups, dental implants commonly last 20 years or more, and many last for life. The crown on top may need replacement after 10–15 years due to normal wear.

Most healthy adults with adequate jawbone are good candidates. Diabetes, smoking, and untreated gum disease can affect outcomes. A consultation with 3D imaging tells us exactly what is possible.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and most patients report less discomfort than a routine extraction. Over-the-counter pain medication is typically all that is needed afterward.

Cost depends on the number of implants, the type of restoration (crown, bridge, or full-arch), and whether bone grafting is needed. We provide a clear written estimate after your consultation and 3D scan.

Some dental plans cover a portion of the implant or the crown; few cover the full procedure. Medical insurance may apply when tooth loss resulted from an accident. Contact your provider directly to confirm what your specific plan allows.

The jaw begins to shrink within months of tooth loss because the bone is no longer stimulated by a root. Over years this can change facial shape. Implants are the only replacement that prevents this bone loss.
