What Our Patients Say

Crown & Bridges You Can Trust

When a tooth is cracked, heavily decayed, or has lost too much structure for a filling, a dental crown rebuilds it to full strength and natural appearance. When a tooth is missing entirely, a bridge anchors a replacement to the healthy teeth on either side.

Louis B. Sachs D.D.S. has designed crowns and bridges for Southern Maryland patients for more than 30 years. Every restoration is crafted to match the color, translucency, and shape of the rest of your smile.

When Do You Need a Crown or Bridge?

Common reasons we recommend a crown or bridge include:

  • A tooth with a large filling that has cracked or worn out
  • A tooth that has had a root canal
  • A heavily decayed tooth that cannot hold a filling
  • A broken or fractured tooth
  • One or more missing teeth where neighboring teeth are healthy
  • A cosmetic concern that needs more structure than a veneer can provide
Dr. Sachs will always recommend the most conservative option first. A crown is suggested only when smaller treatments will not hold up.

How a Crown or Bridge Is Made

Crowns and bridges typically require two visits:

  1. Preparation — the tooth is reshaped to receive the crown, and digital impressions are taken.
  2. Temporary restoration — placed the same day, lets you eat and smile normally.
  3. Final placement — your custom ceramic crown or bridge is bonded in 1–2 weeks later.
The bite is adjusted at the final visit until everything feels exactly right.

Crown & Bridges FAQs

Modern ceramic crowns typically last 10–15 years and many last 20+. Avoiding ice chewing and night-time grinding (with a guard if needed) helps maximize lifespan.

The procedure is done under local anesthesia, so you should not feel pain during preparation. Some sensitivity in the first few days is normal and typically resolves within a week.

Most cracked teeth can be saved with a crown — especially when treated promptly. Some cracks require a root canal first. Early evaluation gives the best chance of saving the tooth.

A bridge anchors to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. An implant replaces the missing tooth at the root level without involving the neighbors. Each has trade-offs — Dr. Sachs will help you choose.

Crown pricing varies by material and complexity. We provide a clear written estimate at your consultation so you know exactly what to expect. For coverage details, please contact your insurance provider directly.

Brush twice daily, floss carefully around the restoration (special bridge floss is helpful for bridges), and keep your six-month cleaning schedule. With normal care, restorations last well over a decade.
